What happens when a showroom becomes a gallery? When beds, bedding and furniture combine with oils, brushstrokes and experimental sculpture? At home, practical comfort often meets our personality — we create a sanctuary of the self. But broadening our perspectives, and escaping the domestic setting, community comes in. This changes everything. Hanging art on the walls of Mala’s showroom, curated by Chris Pegler and Steve Davies of Art at the Alex, transformed the space entirely. The familiar geometry of beds and furniture softens, animates, and becomes human. Corners gain special significance, light falls differently, and what was once blank space acquires new meaning. Like the utility of the canvas and the expression of the brush: everyday objects and artwork can converse. The familiar turns surprising. Playful. Thoughtful. Injecting art into a space is never casual. It's a play of hard work and wonder.
