We Are Makers: A quiet act of resistance

<WRITER> Marc Baker

We Are Makers has quickly become an office favourite. Packed with stories of Makers and artistry. That smell of ink and uncoated paper. A physical, sensory reminder that craftmanship (and print) is alive and well.

Founded by Kate and Jack Lennie, We Are Makers is a long-form print journal dedicated entirely to the people who build real working lives around craft. Not trend pieces. Not studio portraits for the algorithm. Deeply reported stories, told through documentary photography and long-form interviews, from days actually spent inside workshops and small family businesses around the world.

This edition travelled. UK. Italy. Spain. The US. On the cover: Euan Findlay, a young cooper from North Yorkshire, practising one of Britain’s oldest and least-practised trades. Inside, you’ll find father-and-son joiners and woodworkers Jason and Alfred Sexton; Scott Horn, a leatherworker in Santa Fe, New Mexico; cameo engravers in Naples; a bookbinder in Glasgow; hat makers in Madrid. Makers who depend on their work to make a living, and whose stories deserve more than a carousel post.

Printed on premium uncoated stock with a thick, tactile cover. Designed to be kept, revisited, and passed on.

In a world of content designed to be consumed quickly and forgotten, We Are Makers is a quiet act of resistance.
